Check Engine Light & Diagnostics in Port Orange, FL

A check engine light can mean anything from a loose gas cap to a failing catalytic converter. Port Orange Auto Fix tracks down the actual cause, so you only pay to fix what’s broken.

A Code Is a Starting Point

When your check engine light comes on, the car’s computer stores a trouble code. Reading it takes seconds — but the code only tells us which system reported a problem, not which part failed. A misfire code, for example, could come from a spark plug, an ignition coil, a fuel injector, a vacuum leak or low compression.

That’s why we test before we replace. We use the code as a starting point, then check live data, run component tests and inspect the system until we know what’s wrong.

Steady Light or Flashing Light?

  • Steady: something needs attention soon. It’s usually OK to drive to the shop, but don’t ignore it — small problems can damage expensive parts over time.
  • Flashing: an active misfire that can overheat and damage the catalytic converter. Ease off, avoid hard acceleration and call us at (386) 767-7090.

FAQ

Check Engine & Diagnostics Questions

Can I keep driving with the check engine light on?

If the light is steady and the car drives normally, it’s usually OK to drive it to the shop soon. If the light is flashing, or the car is running poorly, overheating or losing power, pull over when it’s safe and call us.

Why did my check engine light go off by itself?

Some faults are intermittent. The light can go out once the computer stops seeing the problem, but the code is often still stored — and the problem usually comes back. It’s worth having it checked.

Can a loose gas cap turn on the check engine light?

Yes. A loose or worn gas cap can set an evaporative-emissions code. Tighten it and see whether the light clears after a few drives; if it doesn’t, bring the car in.

Do you diagnose European cars?

Yes — we diagnose domestic, Asian and European vehicles, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen and MINI.
